Community Information

Welcome to the Queenswood Heights Community Association’s web site.

If you are new to Ottawa and the east end, welcome to Queenswood Heights. We are located in the City of Ottawa, Canada, in the east end of Orleans. Our boundaries are Duford St, Innes Road, Tenth Line and St. Joseph Blvd.

Queenswood began in 1962, as a few homes built on the hill above St Joseph Blvd., adjacent to the village of Orleans, in the Township of Cumberland.  In the sixties the drive from Ottawa stretched through miles of open fields broken by the sight of the Normandie Motel to the left at Champlain St and the cement silo in the field to the left, off Champlain St. –  where Place d’Orleans is presently situated. These and Cheffs store at the bottom of the hill were the landmarks for finding Queenswood Heights for many years. The Community Association was formed in March of 1962 with approximately a dozen homes and very few services.  The year 2012 marks our 50th anniversary and we plan to use our website to offer some history from those years as well as current news.

To the east we have one High school, a public library and the Ray Friel Centre recreation complex adjacent on 10th Line Road with multiple shopping areas on 10th Line, Innes Road and St Joseph Blvd.

To the north we have the Town Centre which includes  the Shenkman Arts Theatre, a Movie theatre, restaurants, a City Client Service centre, the YM/YWCA with a pool, Place d’Orleans, a major shopping centre, emergency clinics and the Orleans Cumberland Community Resource Centre. We also have ten acres of trails on the escarpment overlooking St Joseph providing natural access to the Town Centre area.

We now have four elementary schools in Q H, three lighted outdoor rinks, a community Centre and two field houses, seven lighted Tennis Courts at two locations, and a Queenswood Heights mixed Slo pitch league for adults with two lighted diamonds all located in 5 parks.

Our western boundary is largely Bilberry Creek which consists of approximately 30 acres of nature trails.  There is something for everyone here.

We encourage all residents to become volunteers for the many recreational and other organizations active in our community.  While the Association does not try to supplant the role or responsibilities of an elected Councillor or School Board Trustee, the Association does help in monitoring what goes on in our community and in communicating the consensus of opinion of Queenswood Heights residents. Anyone interested in joining the executive of the association please contact Emilie Anne Duval-Andrecheck.
